Oops sorry did I mention this is Dead related? I was talking about Donna singing on Bertha, what were you thinking?

I was listening to the show that Air Garcia mentioned yesterday. It really is a great show with some really cool transitions in the second set. However it was the Bertha that really struck me this time. Donna was singing back up vocals on the chorus and it just really sounded nice. Typically when people discuss Donna in a good way its LLR and TMNS which are almost like duets and when they are beating her up its usually over moaning, screaming or caterwalling on songs like PITB and Scarlet. This was just nice back up singing like she was doing with JGB at that time and I was wondering if anyone could think of other songs like this.

Seems a bit of a shame that you took all that flak and misunderstanding elsewhere but never got a response to your original post - so here's one.

I’ve always been partial to those slow and stately Row Jimmys from the mid-seventies (there’s one on the show you linked) with Donna singing sweetly on the chorus. I loved the syncopated reggae-Rows that came later but I’d go so far as to say that for me the best Row Jimmys are the Donna and Keith ones. It really needs Donna to capture that song’s sweet melancholy.

Speaking as one who understands a little miscommunication...I suppose you earned that right.

Seriously, though--thought you would let me have it for my contradictory throw my hands in the air don't what we can do surrender the other day on the troll post...

We do all keep keeping on, which is all that matters of course.

If I appreciated the mid 70s more Elbow, I'd respond to the post. I for one thought the catchy subject line was spot on. If we aren't aspiring to improve in all aspects of our literary endeavors, how are we going to catch up with Sir Rob? I think we need every literary device ever conceived and then some...

"... how are we going to catch up with Sir Rob?"

I think it is actually the other way around. Mr. Smith is doing his utmost to represent a people who think The Great Vowel Shift is what happens when you eat some bad haggis as learned and refined. Concern yourselves not with attempting to overtake the verbose patrician, but instead focus on ensuring that he does not overtake US, flooding our senses with the flimsy facade of cleverly turned pharases and multi-syllabic words that merely suggest a highly educated mind well versed in the art of verbal sparring. Don't be taken in by this charade! Instead press on with the sort of elevated discourse (yes, I include any reference to "girl on girl action" as a prime example) that has so recently graced this repository of communal thought and we shall be victorious.

Yeah, the way we're playing now Colorado would walk all over us. Hell, the way we're playing now we're not going to get out of Cleveland alive (there's a phrase I've heard before). Tonight is a must. Hopefully Wakefield will be on, but if he appears even the least bit shaky at the start he better be yanked quickly.

Oh, yeah, I've signed you up with a subscription to C.I.L.F (Cows I'd Like to...you know) Monthly. Better stock up on the Bag Balm.

I had just replied to him a few seconds ago wondering if we were the only ones who had found this back-door way of posting and replying. I'm guessing not and so there are probably any number of clandestine coversations going on all around us. Kind of creepy. Well, when they finally turn the lights on, we'll get to find out.

I see your point, SDH; we might as well accept our literary limitations on focus on what we do best: sports and farm animals. And, if we take the cowbell angle, we can bring it round to the DEAD eventually...

Onward!

Hey Dire--if you get this, come by the forum...just be sure to post to one of the few survivors (SDH, Rob, Jgl, Northstar) by clicking on our username and then posting a reply to that person's posts from either 10-17 or 10-18...we are having fun as the "survivors" with a handful of very private conversations until the big board gets updated. Cush even showed for a while.
